I'VE BEEN EXPLORING THE NET, LISTENING TO THE ADVICE OF PHOTOGRAPHERS AND ADDING UP THE COST, TRYING TO DECIDE WHAT TO BUY. THE 'IF I SHOULD BUY A NEW CAMERA' HAS ALREADY FLOATED AWAY FROM MY MIND. I LOOKED AT MY OLD NIKON D-50 WITH 6 MEGA PIXELS AND DECIDED I WOULD BE VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I LAND IN CUBA IF I DIDN'T HAVE A BETTER CAMERA AS WELL AS SOMETHING EASIER TO CARRY AROUND. SO IN CASE YOU HAVE AN OPINION HERE ARE MY POSSIBILITIES:
LUMIX W/ 14 MEGA PIXELS, FIXED LENS, LOTS EASIER TO PACK WITHOUT DRAGGING A LOT OF STUFF
MY FRIEND PAUL AT NELSON'S CAMERA HAS A USED NIKON D-300 OR D-90 KINDA PRICY AND PROBABLY HAS ALL THAT STUFF TO CARRY AROUND BUT I'LL TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
MY NEPHEW JIM WHO HAS BEEN A CANON GUY ALL HIS LIFE RECOMMENDS CANON BUT I AM MORE FAMILIAR WITH NIKON BUT I WILL LOOK AT THE CANON.
FOR CONVENIENCE I AM LEANING TOWARD THE LUMIX. WHAT DO YOU THINK? AS A PHOTOGRAPHER, I STILL GET CONFUSED WITH ALL THE SETTINGS ETC BUT I TAKE PRETTY GOOD PHOTOS AND STILL GET EXCITED ABOUT THE PROCESS AND WHAT SHOWS UP ON THE SCREEN. IN CUBA THERE WILL BE OLD SPANISH COLONIAL BUILDINGS, PEOPLE, CIGAR FACTORY, LANDSCAPE SUCH AS SUGAR PLANTATIONS AND OF COURSE OLD CARS. SO WHAT SHOULD I BUY?
Hi Judy,
ReplyDeleteJust my humble opinion, but I would just make sure that you try to pick something with a high megapixel and look for one with at least 3 to 4 times optical zoom as it gives you clearer shots then the digital zoom does. I have a Kodak and have had a Fine pix and have found that they take just as good of pictures and sometimes better than my friends high tech DSLR (?) camera. I would also make sure you look for one that has a rechargeable battery as the ones that take regular batteries eat through them pretty quickly.
Good luck,
Jessalee
